Nursing - Why do we remain in a career dominated by unpleasant realities?

June 11th, 2009
Do you remember your first love? How about your first kiss? Ah! The nostalgia of times past. What about the first time you suctioned a trach or inserted an NG tube? Yeah, well… so much for nostalgia.

As a nurse, you have garnered a number of first time memories, the majority of which are not pleasurable. If this is true then why do you remain in a career dominated by unpleasant realities?

Welcome to the Nursing Jobs Web Blog! My name is Jordan Michaels. I am a registered nurse with many years of professional practice and experience. My background includes critical care, home health, utilization review, behavioral health, and hospital accreditation. Positions I have held include staff nurse, program director, and employee educator. Throughout my career, I have been the proud recipient of several commendations.

My purpose is to write to you about the many facets of the nursing profession and the vast realities associated with being a care provider. I want us to explore our unique and collective motivations for being what we are and doing what we do. Together, we will have our nostalgia!
